Who is SHE?
How did she get here?
My interior design story begins 20+ years ago…
Growing up, my childhood home was always under construction. What was once a small, cow-farm country home became a 5-bed, 4-bath, 3 story masterpiece. This was not a small feet for my father and family friends to complete themselves, however… they had the help of young, but mighty assistant. You guessed it, ME… hardhat, tool belt, and all.
Life events threw me in a whole, new direction and I went to school for my Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Counselor Education. I practiced as a licensed mental health professional for a few years and after my grandfather passed away I moved back home to live in my late grandparent’s home.
THIS is where my young, but mighty construction assistant skills came back into play. I was given the creative freedom to paint and decorate the entire home to my liking and style. My grandfather was a passionate wood-worker and had a woodshop in the basement, that I continued to use as I picked up a new hobby of redesigning furniture pieces.
I felt a new passion in life that I hadn’t felt before.
I decided to go back to school for interior design and pursue this new passion in an attempt to “not work another day in my life”…
Why "Empathic Interiors"?
Why "Empathic Interiors"?
The goal for my company is to combine my two passions: mental health advocacy and interior design; which is how I came up with the name, Empathic Interiors.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, empathy is "the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another...". In my Master's program, we learned how one's physical environment can greatly impact their emotions and mental health. I want to ensure that when I've completed a project for a client, they feel their best and can be their most authentic self in their new space.
Being a good interior designer starts with being a good listener. As an interior designer, we have to put ourselves in our client's shoes (aka. empathy) to guarantee we are creating a unique space for each of our unique clients. I want all of my clients to enter their new spaces feeling at-home, safe, peaceful, and, more importantly, like I have captured their personality in my designs.
Designing spaces that give you peace of mind!
